In July 2022, we embarked on an extraordinary river cruise with Avalon Waterways, exploring the enchanting Rhine and Moselle rivers. Day 1: Arriving in Amsterdam
Our adventure began in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. After a warm welcome from the Avalon Waterways team, we settled into our luxurious staterooms, eagerly anticipating the start of our journey.

Day 2: Cologne’s Majestic Cathedral and Rüdesheim
As we sailed along the Rhine, we made our first stop in Cologne. The stunning Cologne Cathedral stood tall, capturing our attention with its Gothic spires. After exploring this architectural masterpiece, we strolled through the charming streets of Rüdesheim. We couldn’t resist sampling the region’s famous Riesling wines at a local vineyard.

We explored the Grand Ducal Palace, admired the stunning Notre-Dame Cathedral, and enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Grund district.

Day 7: Bernkastel’s Wine Paradise
As we sailed along the Moselle River, we reached the quaint town of Bernkastel. Nestled amidst rolling vineyards, this idyllic setting was a wine lover’s paradise. We had the opportunity to sample the local Rieslings while taking in the charming half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets that make Bernkastel so enchanting.

Day 8: Koblenz and the Deutsches Eck
Our final stop was in the historic city of Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. We explored the Deutsches Eck, a monument dedicated to German unity, and took a cable car ride to the mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The views from the fortress were nothing short of breathtaking, providing a fitting end to our cruise.
